Through BOLT’s partnerships with the Children’s Aid Society, Indspire, Pinball Clemons Foundation, George Brown College, Humber College, Centennial College, and the Cooperative Housing Federation, an additional 28 scholarships will be awarded to students studying in construction-related programs for a combined 52 scholarships totaling $175,000 for the 2022/2023 academic year.
This year’s recipients share the impact this award will have on their lives and how it will help them achieve their academic and career goals:
This scholarship means more than you can imagine. Providing for my family and myself while being in school was very difficult. Unlike any other scholarship, the BOLT team continuously checked up on me to provide any additional help or resources needed. I cannot thank you enough. Any step taken closer to accomplishing my goal in life would not have been possible if it was not for BOLT.
l am very honoured and would like to thank BOLT for this generous scholarship award. This year, I was faced with many financial difficulties, but BOLT has given me the opportunity to continue my post-secondary education and follow my dream of becoming a mechanical engineer.
I am truly privileged to have been chosen as a scholarship recipient. Construction has always been a true passion for me – seeing commercial plazas go up, skyscrapers and seeing bare land turn into an entire community is nothing less than amazing. In the future, I hope to become a real estate developer, build communities, make an impact and offer this industry my best.
I am thankful to BOLT for aiding my educational endeavors and also being a positive influence within the community of Toronto and at large. This support has alleviated much stress through my university life and allowed me to develop into a great individual who can make a positive change within society.
This award not only provides financial relief but also an opportunity for me to focus my energy on my education. The financial burden has been lifted, allowing me to focus on my goals without juggling multiple jobs and responsibilities. Thank you for providing me with this incredible opportunity!
The recipients of the BOLT Financial Award can use their awards to cover the cost of tuition, a laptop, textbooks and school materials, as well as rent and other living expenses. Through our network of industry champions, they will also be able to access additional career supports, such as workshops, job shadowing and mentorship opportunities, co-op and summer placements.
In the Spotlight: Mutaz Suleiman
The BOLT Financial Awards are one way that BOLT is #BuildingIndustryTalent in the construction industry. One of our alumni and a past BOLT Financial Award recipient is Mutaz Suleiman, who completed his Masters in Civil Engineering from Lakehead University and is now a new Junior Scientist Engineer in Microclimate. His goal is to build his career in Civil Engineering, make a positive impact in the field of wind engineering, and be a positive role model for future engineers!

“I have always wanted to perform well in my studies, and one of the major obstacles was financial stability. I was also supporting my family, which made me more stressed and worried about school.
The BOLT Financial Awards provided me with many opportunities that I am very thankful for over the years. The awards made me focus on what I like to do most and enabled me to achieve what I have always wanted to. It changed my life for the better and helped me build a future for myself.
The great thing about construction is that it is project-based, allowing you to be exposed to or even try out different things, which you might not have heard about, and that you might be good at.
My advice to other youth is that you might hesitate sometimes, but never underestimate what you can do!”
From the BOLT team and our industry sponsors who make this program possible, we wish each recipient a successful school year ahead!
